Riso- printing or Risograph is a unique method of printing, if used well it allows you to achieve some very unique colour combination, and well defined shapes.
Riso- printing works manually, it is important to have a clear understanding of layers in order to master this method.
Registration in Risograph means- allowing no blank spaces to be potentially shown once the illustration has been printed.
When registration is in place it is important to make sure that all the sizes are correct for effective layering.
However missed registration doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s wrong, or not properly placed/ designed, with missed registration you can also achieve some particular effects something that would be more 3-Dimensional.
We were asked to create a GIF animation, using exclusively a duo-tone combination in order to test out the layering system in riso-print and it’s forms.
Here are the scans of the GIF which I had to put together on Photoshop as the final animation.
It was an interactive workshop and I tried to make the animation as simple as possible to allow the colours to speak through, rather than the illustration itself.
